busy to quiet

I had a cultural contrast today

We went from the busy 750,000 plus bustling Amsterdam to the 28,000 or so souls in the quiet countryside village of Weesp.
No trams, no constant chug of boats along the canals, no car noise.....but a great ice cream parlor and some pretty decent restaurants.
Dinner was kind of funny.  One girl came and took our drink order, another girl brought us our drinks, the first girl came and took our food order, the other girl came and brought us bread, the first girl came and brought us silverware and a napkin.....then nothing.  The two girls came out periodically and chatted with us, waited on other tables, brought other people food.  Meanwhile, I was getting hungry.
After quite a while, a third woman came out and looked at us and said, "Have you already gotten your food?"  We said no.
A fourth woman came out minutes later and told us the order had somehow been missed and was never prepared.  It was being cooked now and would be ready in 15 minutes or so.
I had little pork medallions, about 1/2 inch thick and maybe 2 inches or less across, wrapped in a thick Spanish ham and served over a bed of diced potatoes, carrots, beans and ....... it was amazingly good.
I was given a glass of wine on the house for our patience.
Talked with a woman at the ice cream shop who was alive during WW II and told me they were years of hunger, with mom and dad eating first and the kids licking the bowls because there was not enough food, but the parents had to eat to continue working.
Weesp is not a touristy town.....but it is quiet, and welcoming, and has great ice cream, if I missed that tidbit.
Here are some pictures from today.
One of the side canals in Amsterdam

This is hard to visualize.  There is a man behind the truck.  He has a telescopic pole with a hose attached and is washing he windows on this canal home in Amsterdam

Oh my

How many arched bridges can you see?

Another side canal

Weesp bridge up
Why does the bridge tender keep a shoe on a pole?

When the bridge goes up, the attendant passes out a hoe for the boat operator to pay the 3 Euro charge

Weeps...not as busy or big as Amsterdam
