Those danged varmints!
No, I don't mean the ones in Washington or Springfield. I mean the little guys running unhindered in my back yard.
Ground squirrels. 13 lined ground squirrels. Some tines the are called chipmunks, but I think the main difference is chipmunks live in trees. We don't have any large trees.
Earlier this year Corki got a couple. She seems to catch them and then play with them, but she does not eat them.
I have two traps. If I catch one, I take it far away and release it. I may be breaking the law. Not sure on that one.
I caught one when mowing the other day. I picked up the trap and did not realize the door did not lock. As I was looking at the little critter, it took a running start, hit the door and flew through the air like Supersquirrel.
I reset the trap.
I let Corki out in the yard this morning and she is surrounding the trap, yipping and barking and swatting at it. I put my shoes on, get the dog in, and pick up the trap. The damn door is open and it is empty! Corki must have swatted the door.
Tonight the other trap was closed, and I finally caught a critter! He was cute and chirping away. I put the whole thing in a large plastic bucket and headed out into the country.
All I could think was this little sucker was going to get out of the cage and be free in the car, causing me to have a minor heart attack and a major accident.
Luckily, he did not push the door open.
I reached my destination, put the cage on the ground and opened the door.
Little Ralph took off running.
I was glad to see that.
And I was especially glad to get him out of my yard.
Wonder how many more there are....plenty of holes for a herd.

huh
My body seems to be doing weird things
I noticed a wild hair this morning. I tried combing it, but it would not stay down. It stuck out of the left side of my head like a sore thumb.
So I decided to pull it.
It was on my ear!!!
I swear, it was about 3 inches long. How the hell does a hair grow that long on my ear and me not notice it?
Notice, on my ear....not in my ear.
Just weird.
Took the kids to the airport tonight and did not get lost on the way home. Emily is always convinced I am going to end up going the wrong way. Just because I circled the airport to park one time and ended up 5 miles away on a dark, not well travelled street, which may in fact have actually been a parking lot for rental cars....she thinks I can get lost too easily.
Well, I managed to find a Starbucks and not get lost. I do admit, thought I might be, but I knew I wasn't, but the thought entered my mind that I was not on the road I thought I was on, even though I was. I knew exactly where I was going, just did not know where I was. But I was not lost.
And I did get a coffee.
So, all went right with the world.
Peace and Love....especially at 12 noon tomorrow!

ooops
Sometimes I just wonder about my life
I spent hours looking for the cord to recharge my hedge trimmer, but could not find it. Looked everywhere. Spent $35 on a new trimmer. I finally got the bushes trimmed.....several months past when I wanted to, but I kept looking for the damn cord. To no avail I might add.
I also bought a hose cart. I have one of those looks nice but doesn't work plastic boxes to store my hoses. (This could go south very easily...don't read too much into it) The top keeps flying off and it always leaks. Yes, at my age a leaky hose could be very irritating.
As I was putting the cart together tonight, I needed a pliers. I went into my garage tool box and instead of finding a pliers, I found the damn missing cord! Son of a butcher.
Now I have two hedge trimmers. Go figure.
As I was assembling the hose reel, I took the hoses off the old reel. I hooked them to the new reel and tested them........yes, water sprayed all over me. I looked like I wet myself.
Geez.
Also this week, I took two plates down from the cabinet and I don't know what happened, but I smacked the edge of the counter top and shattered both.
This is a predicament. I love these plates. But they are heavy. And lifting a pile onto the shelf is getting harder.
But I love these plates. We have all the accessory dishes...servers, platters, bowls, napkin holders, bread tray. You name it, someone bought it.
I hate to replace all that stuff.
But now we have to replace some plates. And bowls. Do we replace the set, or just replenish the one we have?
Time will tell, my friends.
By the way, in celebration of Ringo's birthday Sunday, at 12 noon, no matter where you are, Ringo is asking everyone to yell out Peace and Love. If you can't yell it, say it.

worn out
This was a long day
I was up at 7, fell back asleep at about 8 while reading in my chair, napped again at 2, talked to Julia, watched fireworks, talked to an Alaskan, and ate.
Zip accomplished. Nada. Nothing. A lazy day.
I did have a turkey leg for supper. There were 3 food tents at our local July 4 day event, and one had turkey legs. It was good, but not as good as the Ren Faire legs. I have to get one of those later this summer.
So....one picture to keep you in the mood.
Peace and Love and can Ringo really be turning 79?????

bad day or good day
My emotions are a little wild today
A friend left his job recently. Suddenly. Unexpectedly. I was/am truly sad to see this person go, because they were really nice. Someday maybe I will learn why, but it could just be none of my business. But it still saddens me.
Even though it was hot, I managed to trim the rest of the bushes and get in an 11 mile bike ride. I am gradually getting distances built up, but I am way behind where I thought I would be at this time of the year. I just need to ride.
And....I went swimming in S and MK's pool! They have invited me over at least 1,000 times, but I have not gone in years. Today I went. It felt good.
That's my life in a nutshell. Good day....bad day.....happy day.....sad day.

pappa wants some new shoes
I hate buying shoes
I have flat feet, so I have inserts. Because of the inserts, the shoes have to be wide width, otherwise the inserts don't fit in the shoe. This limits my choices.
I am looking for a pair of chukka boots. I love chukka boots. Always have.
Ordered a pair I thought would be nice and they came in the mail today.
All my shoes have round toes. These have pointed toes and they hurt my feet when I put them on. So back they go. Why didn't I notice that when I ordered them?
I miss the days when there were full service shoe stores that carried a wide variety of shoes. I went into four shoe stores in the past year and none carried wide. None. Hence, the Internet.
Ordered another pair tonight. They have round toes. Hope these fill the bill.
When I get a pair, I wear them all the time. This would be a second pair, so I have some variety.
After all variety is the spice of life.

what was that?
Sometimes I just wonder
Communication is important. I don't like texting. Questioning is good.
Keep those three things in mind.
Emily texted me today and asked if I had an extra wallet a co-worker could borrow for a few days.
I said I did.
She asked if I could bring it to the store, as the co-worker's husband had a pinched nerve and it was hard walking.
I poked through my sock drawer and came up with two wallets...a nice, brown bi-fold leather and a tri-fold nylon black. both functional wallets.
I get to the store and find Cub Fan Kim waiting for me. I pull out the wallets and lay them on the counter in front of her. I say, "You have two choices...this lovely brown bi-fold or this attractive black tri-fold."
She has this confused look on her face. Then she says, "Walker. I need a walker. My husband has pinched nerve and it's hard for him to walk."
I check my text and it clearly states wallet.
Blame auto correct and texting in general. But I should have asked why someone needed a wallet for a pinched nerve in the first place. My thought, as idiotic as it now sounds, was that they wanted a smaller wallet because it hurt to sit with a regular wallet.
Everyone laughed, except her husband, who was patiently waiting for a walker.
Then I went to DD because I have a gift card with some money on it.
The girl behind the counter must have been 12. I asked for a large iced vanilla coffee and gave her my gift card.
Communication. It's important.
My hearing aids were off, or something. Everything sounded like people were talking through layers of clothing.
I said, "I think I have enough on the card, right?" She smiled nicely and said I had a balance of $2.30. I said, "Great! I am glad to hear that." and went to pick up my order.
After an awkward minute or two, she said. "You have a balance of $2.30." I nodded and said, "I hear you. So I am good to go, right?"
I could tell she was either starting to think I was crazy or must another daffy senior. She was almost afraid to offend me.
"Sir, you owe $2.30. That is your balance."
That's when it hit me she was using balance differently than I was.
I paid, then got a drink that must have been 3 gallons, which means I won't sleep a wink tonight.
It did give me enough energy to mow, ride 9 miles, and do dishes. But I hope I can get some shut eye.....my mind seems to be a little unclear in the communication mode.
